Dallas, is the 3rd largest city of Texas and the ninth largest in USA. It was founded in 1841 and finally incorporated as a city in 1865. Being the part of one of the largest inland metropolitan areas Dallas does not have any navigational facilities. This fact has never been an impediment in the development of Dallas. The White Rock Lake was created in 1911 for providing drinking water to the residents of Dallas. It was created by damming the White Rock creek, which now opens into the lake and flows into the Trinity River. The lake which offers more than 9 miles of waterfront, soon became a favorite place of recreation among the city dwellers. As soon as a new water reservoir was created, the White Rock Lake and its surrounding area became a city park. The park exists till date and is regularly visited by tourists.
The White Rock Lake even has one of the most popular dog park around it. The park surrounding the White Rock Lake provides ample of opportunity to the tourists for enjoying themselves. The total walk around the lake takes about three hours. There are several legends attached to the White Rock Lake, like the “lady of the Lake”, who is said to be the spirit of a young woman who got drowned in the lake in the 1930s.
