Dallas is the third largest city of Texas which has a typical Texan flavor attached to it. It houses few of the tallest buildings of America and is ranked as the 15th tallest city of the world. A landlocked metropolitan area, Dallas lacks navigational facilities. But this has not curbed the economic growth of the city. Over the years it has become one of the major commercial hubs of the country. The excellent rail and roadways connecting Dallas to other parts of the country has proved beneficial in this respect. Dallas has number of cotton and oil mills which are of tremendoud historical relevance. The city of Dallas has few tourist spots which attract tourists from all over the country and from abroad as weel. The Dallas Arboretum and the famous aquarium and Zoological gardens are two of the many tourist destinations that Dallas has to offer.
Of these, one of the very important destinations is the WesEnd Marketplace. The marketplace comprises of few old world buildings nestled among the skyscrapers of Dallas. The WestEnd Marketplace traditionally consisted of three buildings which have recently been renovated into one building. The renovation though did not spoil,the red brick Chicago School Architecture of the market place. The shops at WestEnd Marketplace opened in October, 1986and has been serving the population at Dallas for 19 years.
The WestEnd Marketplace has a unique collection of retail shops, restaurants and a movie theater. The merchandise at the shops of this market place has a unique Texan touch. The shops has been selling items like western wear, antiques, jewelry, fine chocolates, fudge. The WestEnd Marketplace reminds you of the bygone Victorian era, with vintage street lights, Horse Drawn carriages and brick lined walls.
