Dallas is one of the major commercial hubs of the USA. It is the third largest city of Texas and the ninth largest of United States. Being a landlocked city, Dallas does not have the facility of navigation. This, though has hardly affected the development of the city, which is known worldwide for Petroleum technology, telecommunications, banking, computer technology and transportations. Dallas has a humid subtropical climate, which makes it favorable for tourists to visit Dallas throughout the year. The best time to visit Dallas is during the pleasant months of spring and autumn. Like all major US cities the city has a lot many skyscrapers strewn throughout. The city has a unique blend of modernity and natural beauty. The numerous tourist spots of Dallas are a proof of the natural and artificial splendors that Dallas posses. The Dallas Arboretum and Dallas World Aquarium and Zoological Gardens are few of the many tourist attractions of Dallas.
Another spectacle of the city of Dallas is the magnificent Dallas Zoo. It is considered to be the largest zoological garden within Texas. The Dallas Zoo was the first zoological garden of the Southwest which had been established in 1888. The zoo is spread across a sprawling 95 acres and has an amazing collection of about 8000 animals in breathtakingly beautiful settings.
The Major attractions of the Dallas Zoo are:
- The Wilds of Africa – this section houses certain interesting quarters and animals like the Nature's Trail, Jake L. Hamon Gorilla Conservation and Research Center, Acacia Springs Aviary, African black footed Penguins, Crocodile Isle, Kimberley Clarke Chimpanzee Forest, A D Martin Sr. Forest Aviary, Monorail Safari, Saddle Billed Stork.
- The Lacerate Family Children's Zoo – This section also houses several interesting spots loke Kresge Foundation Farm, Underzone, Pony Trek, Travis & Zach's Bird Landing, Discovery house and Tot Spot, to name a few.
- Zoo North - This portion of the zoo houses sections dedicated to tigers, reptiles, birds, animals with extraordinary snouts, Kangaroos, Giraffes, Elephants and several endangered species like Cheetahs and Black Rhinos.
- Plaza Entry – This section has a endangered species carousels, a “Zoorama”, Jungle Shop, Auditorium and a Lemur Lookout.
Visiting Hours at the Dallas Zoo:
- 9 am to 5 pm daily (the hours are subject to variation)
- Closed on Christmas day.
